What is Plan Management under the NDIS?

Plan Management is when a provider such as Maple Community Services™ supports you to manage funding in your NDIS Plan. These providers are known as Plan Managers.

When you’re an NDIS participant, you are assessed to identify your needs and the support options that are available to meet them. After your eligible programs and level of need are identified, a plan is made together with an NDIS representative, yourself, and any service providers you may designate. This plan will be carried out, reassessed, and amended as necessary through the duration of your participation in the NDIS program.

Here at Maple; we make your experience a breeze with our NDIS Plan Management options. We undertake the day-to-day administration that comes with a NDIS Plan – receiving invoices from providers, checking them for accuracy, confirming that services are delivered, claiming money from the NDIA, making payments to your providers, and sending you regular updates so that you can see how much you have utilised of your Plan. How Do I Start an NDIS Plan?

First of all, you need to apply for NDIS funding by filling out the Access Request Form and emailing it to the NDIA. Once they receive your form, they will subsequently invite you for a planning meeting to discuss the supports that are reasonable and necessary to you and what kind of funding would best suit your needs. 

Once you have been approved for funding and you receive your budget, you can start creating your plan. During this initial meeting and continuously throughout your plan, you can set or change your goals to help you live a happy, healthy life. Your Plan Manager will help to facilitate these goals by connecting you to the most appropriate providers.

The funding under SIL supports the assistance and support needed in these situations rather than the costs of the accommodations themselves. Expenses such as rent, groceries, utilities, telephones, and internet access, as well as general household items such as furniture, appliances, and cooking utensils are the responsibility of the participant or may be supported through other government or non-government programs. Only assistive devices or aids can be supported through NDIS funding.

What Does an NDIS Plan Manager Do?

Your NDIS Plan Manager is responsible for managing your budget and paying invoices from your service providers on your behalf. What should be included in the NDIS Plan?

Your NDIS Plan outlines your goals, aspirations and the supports you require to reach them, plus the funding you receive from the NDIS. This is what is initially discussed at your planning meeting. Every participant has their own unique plan, created to meet your goals. Your first plan is the start of a lifelong relationship with the NDIS and, as your life and circumstances change, so will your plan.

These can be written into shorter term and longer term goals and can be added to and changed throughout your plan. Your goals are very personal to you. What are the 3 main support purpose categories in the NDIS?

There are three main support purpose categories funded by the NDIS: Your plan includes the following information:
  • Core: A support that helps participants achieve daily living activities.
  • Capital: Investment support for assistive technologies, equipment, and home or vehicle modifications. This also includes funding for capital costs such as Specialist Disability Accommodation.
  • Capacity: A support that enables participants to build their independence and skills.
